TBC - University of Leicester

The Impact Midlands Physics Alliance Conference Training (IMPACT) is a tri-annual conference hosted at the Universities of Birmingham, Nottingham and Warwick. The conference is open to all current postgraduate astronomy students within the Midlands Physics Alliance Graduate School (MPAGS) and are aimed to give students the opportunity to discuss their research and improve their presentation skills in a relaxed environment.

The first ever IMPACT event was held at the University of Birmingham with the next event taking place on the 26th October 2015 at the University of Nottingham. IMPACT is a one day event which will consist of talks and posters on multi-disciplinary fields of astronomy. The conference is designed to replicate a typical academic conference so that students are able to gain experience and prepare for future presentations but without the some of the pressures. Additionally the conference hopes to broaden the knowledge of students in other astronomy research areas and enable us to build strong research links and potentially collaborations with peers at local institutions.

If you are an astronomy postgraduate student at either Birmingham, Nottingham, Warwick, Keele, Loughborough or Leicester and would like more information please email It is strongly encouraged that all students submit an abstract for a talk or a title for a poster. All submitted talks will be spread over the two terms in order to cover a broad range of research topics in each session. For the upcoming spring conference, second year PhD students will be given priority for talks and third years are expected to bring a poster. MPAGS credit is available only to those who contribute to the event. If you wish to attend but not present your work please leave the abstract field blank.
