Julian Date

The Julian date can be found for a specified calendar date from the Astronomical Almanac. Modified Julian date (MJD) is defined as 

MJD = Julian date - 2,400,000.5
The MJD at the start of observation can be found using the HEADER application for any dataset.

The MJD of 1st January 1972 is 41317.0
