ROSAT, the RÖentgen SATellite, is an X-ray observatory developed through a cooperative programme between Germany, United States and the UK. The satellite was designed and is operated by Germany, and was launched by the United States on June 1, 1990. The University of Birmingham was involved in the design and manufacture of the Wide Field Camera on ROSAT.
