THE ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY NATIONAL ASTRONOMY MEETING 2005 - 2nd MEDIA Announcement
THE UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM
TUESDAY 5 APRIL TO FRIDAY 8 APRIL 2005
The RAS National Astronomy Meeting (NAM) 2005 at the University of Birmingham will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday 5 April and continue until 5.30 p.m. on Friday 8 April.
Around 400 astronomers are expected to attend during the week. The sessions include presentations on black holes, gamma ray bursts, the early evolution of galaxies, solar storms, exoplanets and the Cassini mission to Saturn. REGISTRATION
Media representatives are invited to attend free of charge. However, it would be helpful if media would register in advance their intention to attend by contacting Peter Bond or Anita Heward (contact details above). Media may also register in the normal way during the meeting by presenting their credentials at the registration desk.
PRESS ROOM
The press room, staffed by Peter Bond and Anita Heward, will be located in Room B1, in the basement of the Mechanical Engineering building. (see http://www.location.bham.ac.uk/edgbaston.htm for the location). It will be open from 8.45 a.m. to 5.45 p.m. Tuesday - Thursday and 8.45 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. on Friday.
PRESS NOTICES
During the week before the meeting we expect to distribute by e-mail 15-20 embargoed press notices on topical and newsworthy presentations. They will also be available on password-protected pages of the meeting Web site accessible from: http://www.sr.bham.ac.uk/nam2005/pr

THE CONTENT OF EACH PRESS NOTICE IS EMBARGOED UNTIL 00.01 A.M. ON THE DAY OF RELEASE.
There will be releases embargoed for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
THE RAS National Astronomy Meeting
The RAS National Astronomy Meeting (usually held annually) is one of the most important regular gatherings of astronomers in the UK. It is sponsored by the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC) and the Royal Astronomical Society.
