LDR Meeting
23rd September, 2004 - Birmingham (UK)
Here is a pdf file with the campus
map. Our building, the venue for the meetings, is Physics West (34b).
If in doubt, head for the landmark
clock tower-we are adjacent to it.
Travel
By plane: Birmingham International
airport is about 25 min by car from the University campus. Taxi fair from
the airport to the city centre or University is 20-23 GBP. Trains run
from the airport to Birmingham main train station (New Street) which is
located in the city centre. Connections are very frequent (every 15 min
or so). All major airlines fly to Birmingham International. Several no-frills
airlines (Ryanair, Easy-jet, Fly-be, AirBerlin, Thomsonfly and others)
fly to Birmingham International Airport and/or airports close to Birmingham,
including Coventry, London Luton, London Stansted and East Midlands .
There are good train and/or coach connections from all these airports to
Birmingham.
By train: Birmingham is very well
connected to the other major UK cities. The main train station is Birmingham
New Street, right in the city centre.
Local city-trains connect New Street to the station on campus (University
- 1 stop, trains every 20 min - ticket: 1 GBP). Trains are usually fairly
expensive (if you purchase a ticket in advance, usually 7 days before
departure, there is a quite substantial discount). For time-tables see here
By coach: Birmingham is very well connected
to the rest of the UK with coach services. For time-tables see here
