A statistically-selected Chandra sample of 20 galaxy clusters - II. Gas properties and cool-core/non-cool core bimodality

Gas density profiles for 20 galaxy clusters Gas density vs. scaled radius coded by cool-core status and mean temperature, showing lower densities in cooler clusters & groups, due to cooling and feedback (figure 2 from the paper). There is a pronounced shift towards higher gas densities for cool core clusters, which diminishes towards the outskirts. In addition, the well-known tendency for cooler (less massive) clusters to have systematically lower gas densities is clear.
