Gravitational-wave astronomy -- assignment 1
- Problem 1:
Can we build a gravitational-wave emitter in the lab, say, a rotating dumbbell?
How much energy would it release in GWs? How long would it take to release a
graviton?
- Problem 2:
Estimate the gravitational-wave energy flux on Earth from a binary neutron star
merger in the Virgo cluster. Compare with the light flux from Sirius.
- Problem 3:
Do gravitational waves get absorbed/dispersed? Hint: consider a universe filled
with spheres with a given resonant frequency and damping time.
