Allows values to be read from an ASCII or binary file into a primitive HDS object. The object must already exist and the data type is taken from this. The file is read with a FORTRAN free-format read and one item per record (line) is assumed (real numbers must have a decimal point). An ASCII (formatted) file is assumed unless explicitly overridden.
