Our ultimate aim is to carry out astrophysics, cosmology and fundamental physics in a new observational window on the Universe: the gravitational wave band.
We are active in the investigation of astrophysical and cosmological scenarios relevant to gravitational wave sources for ground-based (GEO600, LIGO, VIRGO and TAMA) and space-borne (LISA) laser interferometers. We are involved in the analysis of the data from the three LIGO interferometers and the GEO600 instrument and searching for gravitational waves at an unprecedented sensitivity level. We are also members of the Advanced LIGO UK Team engaged in the instrumental upgrade of the present LIGO interferometers and the European team working on LISA Pathfinder, the technology demonstration mission for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna.
