The properties of galaxies and the way they evolve depend strongly on both the galaxy mass and the environment in which the galaxy resides, on whether it inhabits dense regions of the Universe, and whether it belongs to a group or a cluster of galaxies. Recently, galaxy field and cluster surveys at redshifts from 0 to 1, and beyond, have greatly advanced our knowledge of the trends of galaxy properties with galaxy mass in the different environments. I will present recently published and unpublished results obtained combining data from the WIde-field Nearby Galaxy-cluster Survey (WINGS) and the Padova-Millennium Galaxy and Group Catalogue (PM2GC) at low-z, and the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (EDisCS) at z=0.4-1. The subject of the presentation will be decided by the audience, that will have a choice among a number of topics including: a) the issue of S0 galaxies; b) the relative roles of galaxy mass, local and global environment in shaping galaxies; c) the road to passivity: stellar populations; d) galaxy sizes and masses in different environments and at different epochs.
