The ROSAT X-ray astronomy satellite (Röntgen Satellite) was launched on
June 1, 1990, and was switched off on Friday 12th February 1999. ROSAT
is a German satellite,which also has scientific instrumentation supplied by the
USA and the UK. There are scientific data centres at the Max Planck Institut
für Extraterrestische Astrophysik (MPE) near Munich in Germany, the
Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) near Washington DC in the US, and
RAL/University of Leicester in the UK.
