AGN: populations, parameters and power

12th Birmingham-Nottingham Extragalactic Workshop

27-28th September 2010

The Workshop will be held in the School of Physics & Astronomy at University of Birmingham. The format will be similar to previous workshops in the series, with a mixture of 15 and 30 minute talks, leaving plenty of time for discussion.

The meeting will start at 11:00am on Monday September 27th and conclude at around 4:00pm on the 28th, so that only one overnight stay in Birmingham should be required.

Travel to Birmingham

It is very convenient to travel to the University by train. Birmingham University has its own station called “University”, which is an 8 min ride from Birmingham New Street station, with local trains from New Street running every 10-15 mins during most of the day.

From the University station walk towards the centre of the campus, aim in the general direction of the clock tower, which is in Chancellors Court. The meeting will be held in the Small Lecture Theatre, accessible via the Physics West Building (R8 on this map). Physics West is on the other side of Chancellor's Court from the station. Enter the building through the door facing the clock tower; signs will be there to guide you to the lecture theatre.

Some car parking spaces will also be available, please let us know if you plan to travel by car.

Directions & maps

General directions to getting to the University, along with maps of the Edgbaston campus and surrounding area, can be found here, with more specific directions to the School of Physics and Astronomy provided here.

More travel and local information is available here.

Overnight Arrangements

A provisional list of accommodation options for the Monday night (27th September) is available here.

If there is enough interest, we may try to organise blocks of rooms for participants. However, since this workshop is going to be held in Freshers' week, subsidised rooms at student rates will not be available.

There will be a meal at a local restaurant on the Monday evening, the cost of which is included in the workshop fee.

Projection Facilities

We will have the usual overhead projector and facilities for projecting Powerpoint presentations. As ever with Powerpoint you probably should have a back-up in the event of an incompatibility between our system and yours.
